Being active and getting outdoors is the perfect way to boost the mind, body and soul. We have selected the best local walking and bike trails around Melbourne’s west for you to explore.

Federation Bike Trail

The Federation Bike Trail is a safe off-road, sealed path for pedestrians and cyclists. The 23 kilometre trail provides a scenic link between Werribee and Brooklyn. Starting at Werribee River, the Federation Trail meanders through flat and open country allowing for a leisurely ride through the heritage listed reservation of the Main Outfall Sewer (MOS) and then the MOS reserve through the western suburbs of Brooklyn, Laverton North and Truganina. There are a few drinking stations along the way, but no food or drink stops after Werribee, so remember to pack your essentials before you commence you ride.

Hummingbird & Wetlands Walk

The Hummingbird & Wetland Walk is a leafy 5.27 kilometre trail, passing two wetlands. The walk is flat and easy with various options for places to stop and relax and listen to the sounds of the frogs or birds chirping away. Make the most of the BBQ facilities available just past the Humming Bird Boulevard Reserve or simply take read a book and enjoy the peaceful serenity.

K Road Cliffs

Take the little ones on a real adventure to K Road Cliffs. The reeds are long, the paths are rugged, and the views are spectacular with afternoon skies and cliff faces rich in colour like those of Central Australia. Venture down to the riverbed for a stroll along the banks, or a picnic by the water. The natural landscape is truly breathtaking! Don’t miss sunset from the picnic area at the top of the cliffs, with a high vantage point for a sundown view.

Sculptures Walk in Mansion Gardens

Take a step back in time at Werribee Park as you wander around the gardens of Werribee Mansion. Built in 1877 by the Chirnside brothers, pioneering pastoralists from Scotland, as residential and working buildings for a large working farm. The sculpture walk through the mansion gardens, features 29 artworks from Australia’s leading sculptors.

The State Rose Garden

With Spring comes new blooms and there’s no better place to celebrate this special time of year than at the Victoria State Rose Garden in Werribee Park. Impeccably manicured by a dedicated group of volunteers, the gardens cover about 5 hectares with over 5,000 roses and walking pathways throughout. Just beside the gardens is a fully equipped BBQ area with sun sheltered picnic tables for lunch.

Werribee River Bike Trail

The Werribee River Bike Trail winds along the Werribee River from Presidents Park, Wyndham Vale to Chirnside Park, which has an abundance of fun activities to enjoy at the end of your ride. Enjoy a packed lunch at the picnic spot and enjoy the leafy surrounds and historic monuments. For the more adventurous, head to the Olympic outdoor pool or play a game of tennis, bowling, football, cricket, or even fishing.
