The long-awaited Ison Road project is set to open later this year, delivering a new connection between Ison Road, Geelong Road and the Princes Freeway via an overpass across the Melbourne-Geelong rail line.
For Windermere residents, the biggest benefit will be easier access to the Princes Freeway, providing a quicker and more direct route for those travelling towards Melbourne, Geelong and other destinations connected by the freeway network.
“The new connection will make it more convenient for residents who regularly rely on the freeway for work, leisure and travel,” said Jason Buckland, Senior Development Manager at Windermere.
“While the road does not provide direct access into Werribee, it creates an alternative route to the freeway and forms part of the broader transport network supporting Melbourne’s growing western corridor.”
As Wyndham continues to expand, infrastructure projects like Ison Road play an important role in improving connectivity and ensuring communities are well supported into the future.
More than 29,000 journeys are expected to use the new road each day by 2036 according to the Victorian government, reflecting the significant growth occurring across the region.
The project also includes new walking and cycling paths along and beneath the overpass. While the surrounding area is still developing, these connections will support future active transport opportunities and improve links between neighbouring communities as the region continues to grow.
The opening of Ison Road is another sign of the continued investment taking place across Wyndham. Together with new schools, shopping centres, parks and community facilities, major infrastructure projects help strengthen the appeal of communities like Windermere and contribute to a more connected and convenient lifestyle for residents.
As more families choose to call Melbourne’s west home, projects like Ison Road ensure the region is well positioned to meet the needs of current and future residents.
