Benmore Street Park: where children play

Laughter echoes across the playground as children race for the swings, climb towering play structures and invent new games with friends. Parents sip takeaway coffees while neighbours stop along the pathways for a quick chat. At Benmore Street Park in Windermere, these everyday moments are already shaping the life of the neighbourhood.

Now open within the growing masterplanned community of Windermere in Mambourin, the park is quickly becoming a lively gathering place.

Located near Benmore Street and connected to Windermere’s expanding network of streets and reserves, the park invites residents to walk, cycle and spend time in the open air.

“We wanted Benmore Street Park to be a place where residents naturally come together. It is somewhere children can play, families relax and neighbours spend time outdoors,” said Senior Landscape Architect Chris Chung from GbLA.

The park’s central location links directly into Windermere’s growing network of green corridors and the linear reserve that winds through the community, making it easy for residents to reach on foot or by bike.

A defining feature of the park is its orchard theme, inspired by the area’s agricultural heritage. This story is reflected throughout the playground and landscape, creating a space that feels both playful and connected to the land’s history.

Children are drawn to the orchard-inspired playground. Timber towers resemble stacked apple crates, while a tractor themed play structure nods to traditional farm equipment. A fruit market stall cubby encourages imaginative play, turning the playground into a lively market scene where young residents create their own adventures.

Inclusive play was a key focus in the design. A wheelchair accessible carousel spinner, a shared bird nest swing and toddler swings allow children of different ages and abilities to play side by side.

“Designing spaces where children of different ages and abilities can play together was really important,” Chris said.

Beyond the playground, generous lawns provide room for kicking a ball or laying out a picnic rug. Shaded seating and a large shelter create comfortable places where families can gather for celebrations, weekend catch ups or relaxed afternoons outdoors.

Residents and visitors can learn more about the community by visiting the Windermere Sales Gallery at 275 Greens Road, Mambourin, open daily – 11am to 5pm. Titled land starts at $325,000 (subject to change).
